Plot summary:
It's the 100th anniversary of the first engine powered flight, and suddenly all planes in the world are crashing. Tom does some research in his father's notes and finds out that 100 years ago, he had been on a baloon ride to extreme heights while being high on goloka roots. Back then, he had discovered something very unusual in the sky. So Tom decides to follow his father's footsteps and go on a similar ride with Dhalua.
High in the sky, they meet aetheric beings called Sky Lords. These beings had made a pact with Tom's father 100 years ago, which granted humans the access to the sky. The contract expired after 100 years, so Tom has to negotiate for a renewal. In the end, the Sky Lords agree to continue for 20 years, but only if the humans stop using fossil fuels.
Comments:
Gee, this story by guest writer Mark Schultz (Cadillacs and Dinosaurs) is a hardly bearable mishmash of science fiction, psychedelia and tree-hugging political correctness. At least, we have some gorgeous art by Pascal Ferry (soon to be the regular artist on Adam Strange) who does some cool effects with grid patterns.
